Today’s engines, what can we say? They all feel alike, their sound is more or less artificial and in order to even see them, you have to remove about two dozens of auxiliary systems.
Going back to the Eighties, when engines were still engines, cars still cars, boys still boys and girls still girls. Presidents were honorable cowboys and prime ministers were acting out of conviction.
Going back to the Eighties, what are the great engines of all times?
Certainly the Jaguar six-cylinder. Of course the Alfa Romeo DOHC four-cylinder and without any doubt Porsche’s flat-six. Finally this one here, BMW’s M30.
BMW’s reputation of a company making great engines, it has much to do with the M30.
